Benjamin Knox Gallery

Astrophotography Exhibit at the
Benjamin Knox Gallery - Part 1

By Randall Light, MD

Earlier this year Benjamin Knox asked if the Brazos Valley Astronomy Club would be interested in providing an astrophotography exhibit in his gallery. Images would be displayed as part of the Last Friday events in the gallery from the last Friday in July through the last weekend in August. There would be opening and closing receptions open to the public. He expected many visitors the last weekend of the exhibit which coincides with the first home game of the TAMU football season.

Moving Forward

Enough members of the BVAC agreed to participate that the project moved forward. Eventually, seven members submitted seventy-five printed images to exhibit. Each image was accompanied by a card with the name of the object, catalog designation, and a brief description of the object. Each astrophotographer provided a brief biography, an artist statement, and a photo of themselves to be displayed with their images. See artist information here.

The Gallery and Exhibit

Benjamin and his staff did an excellent job of displaying the images in the main gallery area and adjacent hallway. The opening reception was well attended. Several of the images were sold immediately. Eventually ten of the displayed Images were purchased. Those were delivered when the exhibit closed. Benjamin liked the exhibit and suggested that it could be repeated at some time in the future with even larger prints.

Thanks to Benjamin Knox, everyone who participated in the exhibit, and those who visited the Benjamin Knox Gallery sometime during the exhibit.
