Frequently Asked Questions

I see you hold meetings at the Texas A&M Observatory.  How do I get there?

The Texas A&M University Observatory is located on the west side of Easterwood Field, on the property of the main campus of Texas A&M.  It is a university facility and we do not go there except by prior arrangement.  The is a gate on Fishtank road on the way to the Observatory.  Be sure that will will be open for both your entry and exit. Here is a map on how to get there.

This looks interesting.  How do I get in touch with the group?

There are several ways to track us down.  The easiest way is to use the "Contact Us" page on this website.  You could come to one of our meetings.  The time and location is posted here. Or you can give us a shout on our Yahoo group at  http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/brazosastro/  It is that simple.  We look forward to hearing from you.

Do I need a big telescope to come observe with you?

Absolutely not.  All you need is an interest in the stars and planets.  Observing the night sky with the naked eye is a very rewarding experience.  With binoculars, you can get years of pleasure.  Telescopes just allow you to see fainter objects.  come observe with us first before you buy anything.  You will find you need less than you think.  At club observing sessions, one can always look through the equipment of other members.  That way you can see what would be a good fit for you.
